A new report titled "The Hidden STEM Economy" from the Metropolitan Policy Program at the Brookings Institute in Washington D.C. says one out of five jobs in the United States is STEM related.
STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. According to the report, nationwide, 26 million jobs are related to STEM fields.
Margaret Anderson Kelliher is President and CEO of the Minnesota High Tech Association. She says STEM covers more jobs than many people may expect, "We're broadening out this definition of who is a science, technology, engineering and math worker."
The report also finds that STEM jobs, on average pay more than jobs with similar educational requirements and that currently, the Federal Government pays $4.3 billion dollars each year on STEM education and training.
