A major construction project on one of the metro's most-traveled interstates is slowing down thousands of drivers.
Lane closures will affect traffic on I-694 all the way from Highway 100 in Brooklyn Center to I-35W in Arden Hills, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. It was originally scheduled to begin Monday morning but was delayed until Monday at 7 p.m. because of an equipment breakdown.
Interstate-694 and 35W will be one of many potential spots you could find yourself in a complete gridlock with other drivers as MnDOT starts long-term lane, ramp and loop closures all along the interstate.
I-694 traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between East River Road and Highway 10 in Brooklyn Center overnight from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m.
Day time traffic will have two lanes to navigate through the construction from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Lane closures will last through November.
Ramp and loop closures are scheduled to be shut down for up to 10 days at a time throughout the project; MnDOT suggests signing up for email alerts to learn when the closures will happen. For more on that, click here.
Construction will also impact Maple Grove Transit schedules. Click here for more details.
