(ABC 6 News) -- A woman is dead after drowning in a lake in Owatonna. It happened at Lake Kohlmier just before 5 p.m.
The Steele County Sheriff says the victim is a 47 year old woman.
He said they received a 911 call for a possible drowning. Several agencies responded including a deputy who was in the area at the time and was able to respond fairly quickly.
“They were able to see a couple people pulling the body from the water. Immediately CPR was started. Gold Cross, along with Owatonna Fire, Owatonna Police responded and unfortunately... It was unsuccessful,” said Lon Thiele, Steele County Sheriff.
What led to the woman’s drowning is still under investigation and there will be an autopsy done. The lake was open a few hours later, but witnesses say the beach was shut down for a short time. There is not a lifeguard on duty.
