What a wild weekend we have had weather-wise. Our first severe thunderstorm warnings for the weekend came near 1 AM on Saturday. A very slow moving line of storms moved in from west to east. A few trees were reported down just west of the viewing area in Fairmont as the storms began to move in. This line dumped a lot of rain over a short amount of time with Albert Lea, MN receiving 3.14” of rain over 3 hours. At one point water was reported up to the head rests of a flooded car in downtown Albert Lea.

Heavy rain continued to move across the area along with gusty winds. A tree reportedly fell on a house in the Austin area which escaped without any major flooding. Storms then continued east where a few trees were reported down in Rochester and this home in NE Rochester was struck by lightning causing a brief fire.

Our next round of severe weather moved in Saturday night/ Sunday morning. A few severe thunderstorm warnings were warranted for northern Iowa before heavy rain poured down on Fillmore and Howard counties. Numerous reports of major flooding streamed in from Fillmore County with campgrounds evacuated. Over the weekend Lanesboro and Preston both received almost 6” of rain!

The weekend ended on a quiet note on Sunday but flooding conditions still prevailed in Albert Lea and Fillmore County.

Scattered showers are expected Monday night into Tuesday, most staying sub-severe. Another chance for strong to severe storms arrives Tuesday afternoon.
