(ABC 6 News) - A Rochester man may be facing child endangerment charges after leaving his 8-month-old baby in a car for more than a half hour.
Police were called to Menards south around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday after a passerby heard a baby crying in a parked car. When police arrived they discovered the 8-month-old baby sitting in an unlocked car with the windows cracked.
Gold Cross was called to check the health of the baby which turned out to be ok. The temperature at that time was 77 degrees.
Just after 1 p.m. the father of the child came out of Menards. He apologized for leaving the baby in the vehicle and said he did so because the baby had been sleeping and he had planned to quickly run into the store.
The baby was turned over to the mother who police say was upset about the incident.
No charges have been filed yet, but police say the case has been passed on to the county attorney.
According to police this was not the first time this dad has left his child unattended in a vehicle. Back in November police were called to Hy-Vee where he had left his child in the vehicle while he went in to shop.
