(ABC 6 News) -- On Monday July 8, 2013 work will begin on the reconstruction of 2nd St. S.W. from 18th Ave. to West Circle Drive S.W. Project work is being phased to minimize impacts to business and to maintain normal traffic as much as possible.
Phase one work includes, in general, the work on the north side of the roadway. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on the south side of the roadway. On Monday traffic will be merged to the south side of the roadway beginning west of 23rd Ave. S.W. for east bound traffic and between 18th and 19th Ave.’s for west bound traffic. A small section of the center of 2nd St. S.W. is also included in Phase 1 work, stretching from 18th Ave. to 150’ west. Traffic will be moved around each side of the centerline work.
During work on the north side of 2nd St. S.W. all intersection are scheduled to remain open to traffic. However, the roadway access will be narrow at times. Access to business is also to remain open during normal working hours. City staff and the Contractor will be able to answer specific questions regarding that access.
Intersection access from the south side of 2nd St. S.W. will remain unaffected by Phase 1 construction. The first three phases of the project are scheduled to be completed this year. These phases include work from 18th Ave. to 23rd Ave. S.W. Remaining work west of 23rd Ave, to West Circle Drive is presently scheduled for 2014.
