(ABC 6 NEWS) -- After recent reports of gun shots in a Rochester neighborhood, the community has had enough. Police officials as well as residents of the Eastside neighborhood tell me they have major concerns with violence in the area and are doing what they can to keep families safe.

"It kind of impacted into the side of the house, it didn't go through or anything," said local resident Jeff Schneider.

Jeff Schneider came home to a bullet in the side of his house. One of two shots that were fired from across the street Tuesday afternoon. Living in the Eastside neighborhood in Rochester, Jeff says he thinks twice about letting his daughter and two dogs play in the backyard.

"It doesn't seem like this should be a situation, we have to worry about bullets flying through our neighborhood,” said Schneider.

"To have gun fire that’s erupting in a neighborhood, the potential for innocent people or anybody to get hurt is very concerning to us,” said Jon Turk of the Rochester Police Department.

It's not just bullets this neighborhood has endured. Home burglaries are a problem as well.

"Any kind of crime in our neighborhood especially shootings threatens the safety and security of our neighborhood and we're not going to let that happen. We're going to see that this neighborhood is safe,” said Mike LaPlante, President of the Eastside Pioneers Neighborhood Association.

Mike LaPlante, President of the Eastside Pioneers Neighborhood Association says this area's a great place to live and he plans on keeping it that way. Rochester Police say knowing who you're neighbors are could help.

"So when there are people in their neighborhood who are suspicious or activity that's suspicious that they immediately call 911,” said Turk.

The Eastside neighborhood is filled with kids and Jeff Schneider says parents are scared violent crimes will continue to happen close to home.

"You can't feel safe in your backyard if you're going to have shots going off at 12:30 in the afternoon,” said Schneider.
