Fort Snelling paid tribute to the 1800s Thursday during its Independence Day celebration.
Visitors watched cannon salutes, military dress parades and listened to fife and drum music.
Visitors also learned about slavery in Minnesota and what parts Fort Snelling played in the great debate over freedom during the 1800s.
Guests also watched a War of 1812 mock-battle on the parade ground celebrating Colonel Snelling's victory at the Battle of Oak Woods.
