ST. PAUL — Minnesota saw a slight rise in its most serious crimes in 2012. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) today released its 2012 Uniform Crime Report. It shows a 3.4 percent increase in violent crimes compared to 2011.

Local law enforcement agencies are required to report their crime data to the BCA to meet state and federal reporting requirements. The BCA compiles the data into its annual reports and provides required data to the FBI for its reporting purposes.
