(ABC 6 NEWS) -- When it comes time to hit the gym, many of us do it to drop some weight. But for one Rochester man, weight is no issue, mobility is.
It's a Wednesday morning at about 10 a.m. Time for Curtis Accola and his trainer Summer Groth to meet.
"Curtis is a fun guy," said Groth.
They go through the usual motions. Stretching, weights and a big one, walking.
It's gotten tougher to do in the past 8, 9 years. Since Accola was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.
"I'd like to be able to move more but I can't," said Accola.
Groth says he's got the muscle. But when it comes down it, it's the connection between the brain and muscles.
"You just work with what you've got," said Groth.
Accola works out at the Rochester Y to kick the can down the road, he says, to be able to walk for as long as possible.
"Its helped me build strength and I suppose confidence comes with it too," said Accola.
He is a delicate client so trust is key. Especially when it comes to standing and walking.
"He's trusting me more. I'm not going to let him fall I'm not going to let him get hurt," said Groth.
Its been a month and a half since the two started working together. Groth says she has seen an improvement.
"His walking is getting better," said Groth.
While he will still need his scooter to get around for the most part, Acoola hopes the few steps he can take will stick with him longer.
Accola works out 4 to 5 times a week and sees a physical therapist as well.
We're told he's become an inspiration to others at the Rochester Y.
