(AP)-- The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has issued a swimming advisory for Beeds Lake at Hampton in northern Iowa after a water sample exceeded levels for E. coli.
The Mason City Globe Gazette reports that the sample collected this week showed that E. coli in the lake exceeded the standard considered safe.
A swimming advisory does not mean the beach is closed. But anyone swimming should take additional precautions, including showering shortly after swimming and avoiding the ingestion of lake water.
