(ABC 6 NEWS) -- An elderly Stewartville woman who thought she won the lottery, has fallen victim to a scam that emptied her retirement savings.

The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office says in October of 2012, the 80-year-old woman received a phone call saying she had won $750,000 dollars through security sweepstakes. All she had to do was pay the taxes on them for a total of $162,000 dollars.

They gave her their federal id number. She used money from her retirement accounts to send cash through Fed Ex.

The last time she made contact was on June 28THwhen they told her she just needed to send the last payment of $2,000. She sent the money in Wal-Mart money grams.

The $750,000 was supposed to arrive by July 8th, however the money never came. When she called no one answered.

Authorities say she sent the money in over 29 payments to locations in both Florida and Costa Rica.
