(KSTP) - The Polk County Sheriff's Office says a missing two-year-old was found dead in the trunk of a locked vehicle.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Isaiah Theis' body was found by a law enforcement officer just after 10 p.m. Wednesday. The vehicle was near Isaiah's home.

Authorities say the area around the vehicle had been searched several times, but searchers had been told the vehicle was locked before Isaiah was reported missing so it was unlikely he was inside.

The owner of the vehicle returned around 10 p.m. and a deputy opened the trunk, finding Isaiah's body inside.

His parents last saw Isaiah playing with his 7-year-old brother around 7:30 Tuesday night. The family lives in Centuria, Wis.

His parents called police after they couldn't find him.

About 2,450 volunteers were involved in the search for Isaiah, according to the sheriff's office.

The cause of death is still unknown. The Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation, the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and the Polk County Medical Examiner's Office are investigating.
