(ABC 6 News) - A new name has been thrown into the political ring in SE Minnesota.
This afternoon, Nels Pierson announced he is seek election to Minnesota State House of Representatives' District 26B. The spot is currently held by Republican Mike Benson, who has stated he plans to run for the seat currently held by Congressman Tim Walz.
Pierson, 40, is a realtor and real estate developer in the Rochester area. He is married to Rochester native Nicole Pierson and they have two children, Sonja and Nels IV. He received a B.A. degree from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1995 and J.D. from Hamline University School of Law in 2012.
"I am excited to announce my candidacy for State Representative," Nels said. If elected, I'd like to continue that service by working to make Minnesota a better place for small business owners. I also want to ensure our kids get an education that helps them achieve their dreams. Most important for our area, I want a state where doctors and nurses - not bureaucrats in St. Paul - reform our health care system to maintain the high quality, affordable health care we enjoy in Minnesota."
