(ABC 6 News) All summer long people across our area have been raising awareness for another deadly disease....cancer.
Relay For Life events honor those who've lost their lives and those still fighting the battle. ABC 6 News anchor Betsy Singer takes us to Kasson where a small town is coping with a dozen people who've been diagnosed. All of them...children.
Last year at this time while we were preparing to put together the Relay for Life in Dodge County, there were 6 confirmed pediatric cancer cases. This year that number has doubled. 12 children all within the Kasson-Mantorville school district.
The people who have gotten together tonight are taking part in a kick-off for next week's relay. A lot of the families already know each other but tonight it is about fellowship and sharing. There is usually just one ambassador family with a relay for life event but here in Kasson there will be 10 families kicking off the walk.
Again, the Dodge County Relay for Life is next Friday, August 2nd and it starts at 6:00 PM at the fairgrounds.
And don't forget -- we've been following those 12 families for more than two years now. If you haven't seen their stories -- you should -- it's very powerful. You can watch them in their entirety right now by clicking on the links below.
