IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - A fired Iowa investigator may go to court to block Governor Terry Branstad's administration from disclosing a 500-page disciplinary report to an outside investigator appointed to review the firing.
Tom Duff, an attorney for Larry Hedlund, said Friday the report by the Department of Public Safety's Professional Standards Bureau is "a ginned up, manufactured, one-sided" document that contains defamatory information.
He says he doesn't believe the state can legally share the report with former Iowa Supreme Court justice Louis Lavorato, who was appointed to review Hedlund's firing Friday. Duff may file for a court injunction next week.
Branstad says Lavorato will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement to review the report, but Duff says that might not be legal.
Iowa law prohibits the unauthorized release of confidential personnel information.
