(ABC 6 NEWS) -- We've learned new information today about the events surrounding the stabbing death of a north Iowa mother.

Earlier this month, 30-year-old Justina Smith was killed in Northwood, allegedly by her abusive ex-boyfriend, Tyrone Washington.

And on Wednesday, ABC 6 acquired new court documents that show Smith was not alone the day she was attacked, nor was she the alleged killer's only target.

Police say Smith drove to meet Washington in Swensrud Park with a friend, Tyrone Jones.

When they got to the park, Smith got out to talk to Washington at the back of the car.

A short while later, Jones said he heard Smith yell out, and when he looked back, she was no longer standing and he could see Washington making a swinging motion.

When Jones tried to interfere, Washington threatened him with a knife that Jones said appeared to be covered in blood.

Jones said Washington then got in Smith's car and tried to run her over before getting out to kick her in the head several times.

Washington then got back in the car and attempted to run Jones over before speeding off.

ABC 6 tried to contact Tyrone Jones to ask him about what happened that day, but we were unable to reach him for comment.

Washington will be arraigned in Worth County District Court on September 3rd.
