(ABC 6 NEWS) -- The quick little hit of hot weather is perfect timing for the great Minnesota get-together. All the fun at the fair starts Thursday, and some local kids are busy getting ready for the big day.
Things were very busy Wednesday at the pig and sheep barn at the fair. 4H kids were getting their animals ready for what is expected to be a very busy weekend.
"Every morning, we get up and wash, we feed, then halfway through the day, we'll probably wash again," said Lauren Kramer, with the Olmsted County 4H Club.
It's her final year in the club, and she is no stranger to the state fair.
"Two years ago, I got grand champion and then a year ago or so I got reserve champion with my other heifer," said Kramer.
She and other local 4h'ers have been busy working hard all year long, and this week it's finally time for that work to pay off.
"We'll have interviews, we'll have showing, showmanship, then practically just taking care of the cattle," said Kramer.
A lot of these kids say the trip to the State Fair every year is about more than just awards and prizes.
"Making friends is a big thing and just being with the animals and I like being here with everybody around," said Mackenzie Brass, another 4H member from Olmsted County.
"It's really fun just meeting new people and getting to know different people from the state and just making new friends. Like I've made so many people at the state fair, it's really fun," added Kramer.
That judging and showing goes all weekend, and there's even a chance for some of these kids to win some scholarship money.
