(ABC 6 News) - ABC 6 has been nominated for six 2013 Upper Midwest Regional Emmys.
ABC 6 News was nominated for its February 27th, 10pm newscast which detailed a fatal school bus accident and an exclusive investigation into local school bus safety. ABC 6 News also revealed the fact that ICE inmates were being released from the Freeborn County Jail due to the federal sequester.
Anchor/Reporter Laura Lee and photographer Chad Corey were nominated for three Emmys. Their stories included Lee's continued investigation into the number of childhood cancer cases in the Kasson/Mantorville area. Lee and Corey were also recognized for Lee's investigation into the number of Level III Sex Offenders being released back into public in southern Minnesota... including an interview with a Level III Sex Offender. And their work on a local couple, attempting to adopt three young children from the Ukraine, was also recognized by the Upper Midwest Chapter of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Anchor/Reporter James Wilcox and photographer Chad Corey were nominated for Wilcox's investigation into the large number of homeless students in the Rochester area. You can watch the story by clicking on the link below.
Last, but not least, Anchor/Reporter Brianna Long and photographer Chad Corey were recognized for Long's prison interview with Christopher Frisch. The interview was the first time anyone had publicly talked to Frisch since he killed 5 people during a drunk driving accident, just south of Rochester, on Memorial Day weekend in 2009. The stories also revealed Frisch's surprising relationship with the only other survivor of that accident. You can watch the two part series by clicking on the links below.
