(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Minnesota authorities continue their enhanced enforcement to catch drunk drivers. This past weekend 355 arrests were made. The weekend before 400 people were arrested.
Monday, The Minnesota Department of Public Safety also released its 2012 drunk driving report. It shows 104 people died in Minnesota last year because of drunk driving. That's down slightly from the year before when 111 people were killed.
"It shows that the combination of education that we give the public, the enforcement, and the public's decision making is getting better. Our job is never done until that number gets down to zero," says Trooper Thomas Wright of the Minnesota State Patrol.
Last year, 28,418 motorists were arrested for DWI. That's an average of 78 DWI arrests per day. There were 29,257 arrests in 2011; 29,918 in 2010; 32,756 in 2009; 35,736 in 2008.
It is estimated one in seven Minnesotans has a DWI conviction. Nearly 13-hundred people have ten or more.
The current enhanced enforcement goes through Labor Day.
