(ABC 6 News) - A new school opened it's doors to the public for the first time Monday. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the new Alternative Learning Center in Rochester.

This is the new location is located the old Rochester Market Square facility. Part of the reason for the new school is the fact that the old Golden Hill Alternative Learning Center was built in the 1940's and needed renovations. The Rochester Public School District5 opened up the doors for two hours on Monday, so people could look around, and they people came by the hundreds.

"I think the design of the building really is unique and it really was designed to meet the needs for the students we serve and designed to matched the way that we instruct and the way that we teach here at the alternative center", said Superintendent Michael Munoz.

Also at today's grand opening of the Alternative Learning Center... the new Rochester Public Schools logo was revealed! This simple design was created by this guy. He's also the winner of the $1000 prize. Community members were asked to come up with a design. The entries were narrowed down by the district and then voted on by the public through Facebook.

The previous logo had been in place for 40 years.
