With this stretch of dry, hot weather keeping your lawn green has been a major challenge.
But, with a sod shortage in the Twin Cities, new home builders are facing the problem of finding a lawn in the first place.
When new home construction fell during the recession so did the demand for sod. Now, with homes being built again, the demand for sod is on the rise but some sod farmers got out of the business.
If you're already in your home and looking for sod this fall, you should expect to pay higher prices.
According to the group Minnesota Sod Producers there are many benefits of the instant grass. Rather than seeding, sod has no erosion.
They claim sod instantly increases your property value, is better for the environment and has lower maintenance than other forms of turf.
