MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A 23-year-old woman is admitting she lied to a grand jury investigating the case of young men who left Minnesota to fight in Somalia.
Saynab Hussein pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of perjury.
Hussein admitted in federal court that in June 2009 she lied to a grand jury investigating the travels of men from Minnesota. She says she told the grand jury she didn't know anyone who raised money for the travelers, but she actually helped raise money herself.
Authorities say that since late 2007, more than 20 men left Minnesota to join al-Shabab. It has been called one of the largest efforts to recruit U.S. fighters into a foreign terrorist group.
Hussein faces a maximum of five years in prison. A sentencing date hasn't been set.
