A teacher at Benilde-St. Margaret's School in St. Louis Park has been fired.

KSTP obtained a letter sent home to parents. In it school officials say Jon Hickman was dismissed from his job as an engineering teacher Tuesday. The school said Hickman had "inappropriate communications with BSM students." They believe he had interaction with students off campus.

BSM President Dr. Bob Tift said, "I really can't, I am not at liberty to discuss this matter because it is a personnel matter so there is not really anything I can add to the information that's already out there."

A web search shows Hickman is also a photographer.

The school states any such activities - including senior photos or modeling photographs - are not connected with or endorsed by Benilde-St. Margaret's.

KSTP reporter Jay Kolls went to Hickman’s house to get some answers, but the only ones to answer the door were the dogs. Hickman did not return our phone calls.

Meanwhile, President Tift told us the kids and parents handled the tough news pretty well. He said they plan to replace Hickman as soon as possible.

Read the text of the letter sent home with students below:

Dear Benilde-St. Margaret’s Parents and Guardians,

I am writing to inform you that Jon Hickman, senior high engineering teacher, was dismissed from his employment at Benilde-St. Margaret’s School effective September 3, 2013.  Mr. Hickman has had inappropriate communications with BSM students.

Additionally, we understand that Mr. Hickman has had interactions with BSM students through non-teaching activities.  Any such activities including senior photographs or artistic modeling photographs are not connected with or endorsed by BSM.

As always, please keep the BSM community in your prayers.

Thank you,

Dr. Bob Tift
