ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - The University of Minnesota is exploring whether to create a new college combining agriculture, life sciences and the environment.
The new college would combine the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences with the College of Biological Sciences.
A university statement says the possibility has been under discussion for some time. But the announcement was precipitated by Wednesday's announcement of the retirement as Robert Eide as dean of biological sciences, and an earlier decision by Allen Levine to step down as dean of the agricultural school.
Provost Karen Hanson has put searches for new deans on hold, and will appoint a task force to study the proposed consolidation and gather stakeholder comments.
She says students won't experience any disruptions in their current schedules, majors or services in either college.
