LAKE MILLS, Iowa (AP) - Iowa officials have relaxed fishing regulations at Rice Lake in northern Iowa ahead of a major renovation.
The state Department of Natural Resources says the move allows anglers to more freely harvest game fish before the lake is renovated in the fall. The change took effect Tuesday and will run through Nov. 1.
The water level at the 1,000-acre lake was lowered about four feet this summer to prepare for the renovation, which is part of a larger management project.
Licensed anglers will be able to harvest any size or number of species from the lake.
Rice Lake will be restocked in 2014. Officials say quality fishing should return in 2016.
