IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa State Patrol sergeant says he was terminated after being unfairly accused of lying about details of what he did on a night off, and he's seeking to be reinstated and clear his name through appeals.
Kevin Knebel, an assistant district commander in Mason City, was fired in June for allegedly lying to the Clear Lake Police Department during its investigation into the use of sick leave by an officer who was with him that night.
Knebel and his attorney say they don't know what lies he's accused of telling. They're challenging his termination through the Employment Appeal Board, noting that he had no prior discipline in a 20-year patrol career.
Knebel said his superiors are unfairly painting him as a liar and he'll "fight this to the end."
