(ABC 6 NEWS) -- "I've been a goalkeeper since about fourth grade," Byron senior Kenna Johnson said.

It didn't take long for Johnson to get hooked.

"It's a little bit of power. That sounds weird, but you get to control a little bit on the field, and I grew up with an older brother who I couldn't control."

Johnson has done nothing but control games this season. She started the year with a seven game shutout streak, which finally ended Tuesday in Winona.

"I guess in the back of my mind I knew we had shutouts, and we talked about it in school,'yeah, this is great!'" Johnson said.

"Over the summer and into the season this year, she's really taken that step and decided I'm going to work my butt off and I'm going to be that top-notch keeper," Byron coach Marc Stangler said.

Of course, in a game like soccer, the goalkeeper needs help from their defense, and the Bears' efforts haven't gone unnoticed by Johnson.

"They're so willing to do what I ask, and they're always with me. They save my butt more than I can count. They're great. I love them," Johnson said.
