(ABC 6 News) - Mayo Health System in Austin is taking a slightly different approach to healing.
On Wednesday, officials there dedicated a new healing garden. The garden was paid for by the Medical Center Auxiliary and officials say the gardens have been shown to reduce stress and promote healing.
"We agree with the research that says that it helps you to improve your overall outlook on life when you're communing with nature. It's kind of a natural connection between people and nature," said Patty Hareid.
Hospital officials also hope the garden will help improve visitors' experiences as well.
