(ABC 6 News) -- Young patients at Mayo Clinic got a visit from some famous super heroes Wednesday. Batman, Spiderman, and the Hulk climbed down the walls of Saint Marys Hospital in front of a crowd of kids.

When word spread about some very popular superheroes making an appearance at Saint Marys Hospital, kids and families lined up along the windows in anticipation. "We came out at first, they were kind of disappointed like 'oh these are the superheroes?' then when they dropped down it was priceless to see their smiles and just their reactions and excitement, it was great," said Katie Ausen with Mayo Clinic.

Spiderman, Batman, and the Hulk took time out of their busy “super hero duties” to visit some kids in need of a pick-me-up. "They never get to see a lot of this so it was an honor to do it," said Spiderman.

"It was really cool," said Mayo patient Tyler Coon. Kids like Tyler, who just got out of surgery this morning, say it was the perfect medicine. "Like it made me forget about it a little bit," he said.

Parents were happy to see their kids smiling again. "It takes their mind off of what's going on," said father of a patient, Sherman Wallace.

That's why Mayo Clinic called in the pro's. "Sometimes a lot of tears and a lot of, you know it’s not very fun to get poked, and sometimes your doctor comes into your room with some unfortunate diagnosis, and it’s just great to see them smiling and to forget they’re here for a little while," said Ausen.

Believe it or not, these three tough guys admitted it was touching. "Just to see the smiles on their face and them walking up to you and all the pictures…" said Spiderman.

Who knows, they may even stop by to visit their biggest fans more often. "It was awesome, it felt so good to do something this nice and we'll be doing it again," said Spiderman.

The company, ISS Facility Services Inc, who washes the windows at Saint Marys Hospital, “played a role” in the super heroes rappelling from the building Wednesday.
