The Vikings have announced Matt Cassel will be the starting quarterback this Sunday when the team takes on the Carolina Panthers. It will be the second consecutive start for Cassel this season.
Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder met with reporters after Thursday's practice. KSTP’s Darren Wolfson said Ponder said many of the right things, but his demeanor gave a sense that he knows his time in Minnesota is coming to an end.
Ponder says he's healthy, so he's ready to play, yet the Vikings have chosen Cassel to start this week.
Josh Freeman also had his first practice with the Vikings on Wednesday, three days after the Vikings signed him to eventually be their starting quarterback.
Freeman says it's been a whirlwind since he was released by Tampa Bay. He's spending his days and nights poring over the playbook to get up to speed as quickly as possible.
Coach Leslie Frazier says the Vikings have already discussed slimming down the playbook to speed up Freeman's learning curve.
