A 53-year-old Minneapolis man is now charged with murdering an 86-year-old neighbor he believed was ostracizing him, according to the criminal complaint.
Prosecutors charged Bashir Yusuf Jama with second degree murder Monday in connection with the death of Jama Adan Mohamed.
Mohamed’s daughter found him dead in his apartment on the 1200 block of Eighth Street South Tuesday, Oct. 8. The medical examiner says he died from multiple head injuries.
Investigators used apartment surveillance video to connect Jama to the crime. According to the criminal complaint, he eventually told investigators he thought a group of people from the community, led by Mohamed, were ostracizing him. He admitted hitting Mohamed over the head several times with a piece of metal construction material.
If convicted, Jama faces up to 40 years in prison.
