(ABC 6 NEWS) -- If you don't win the battle in the trenches, it's hard to win a football game, and the Austin Packers have found that out the hard way over the past few years.

"We've always known that a good team starts with the line, and we've known since we haven't had a good team, that's due to the line," left tackle Joe Grabau said.

So the Packers starters - Grabau, Gabe Gerstner, Andrew Hagan, Logan Hotek, and Noah Leuer - have taken it upon themselves to deliver.

They have.

"We've worked really, really hard for a long time, and it's finally starting to show up on the field," Grabau said.

Austin's o-line helped deliver back-to-back wins for the first time in four years, as the Packers knocked off Mayo in overtime before beating rival Albert Lea for the first time in seven years.

"Watching running backs go 40 or 50 yards downfield is an amazing feeling, and knowing that you played a huge part in that, that's pretty amazing," right guard Logan Hotek said.

The Mayo win was especially impressive, considering the Packers hadn't beaten the Spartans since George W. Bush was in office.

"We never gave up; we just kept fighting until the bitter end, and we came out with a win. That's huge for us, and it's huge for the program," Hotek said.

"Personally, I feel like that was the defining moment of the program in my time as a varsity athlete," Grabau said.
