The Sears department store in the Apache Mall will close its doors in January.
According to the company's director of communications, Howard Riefs, the store will remain open until January, and the liquidation sale began on Sunday.
Riefs tells us the closure is part of a push to reduce expenses, and accelerate the transformation of Sears' business model.
The Rochester store has 49 employees. According to Riefs, they will have an opportunity to apply for jobs at other Sears and Kmart stores, and some of them will receive severance.
The store opened in 1991.
