(ABC 6 News) -- We should know by the end of this week if a North Iowa man will have his murder trial moved.
Tyrone Washington took the stand Monday in Worth County Court requesting a new public defender.
He is also asking his trial be re-located because he claims media coverage would lead to an unfair trial. He also says it would be unfair because he is a minority.
"I don't see myself having a minority on the jury panel as far as my case, I just don't see me having a fair trial," says Washington on the stand.
As we reported, Washington is charged with first degree murder in the stabbing death of Justina Smith. The mother of two, was killed at a Northwood park in August. Washington was arrested 200 miles away in Southern Iowa.
The judge is expected to have a decision by the end of this week.
