(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Often times in football, injuries take their toll, so when a player goes down, somebody has to step up.

Or in the case of Kasson-Mantorville, two people have to step up.

"They bought into the 'next man up' mentality of football," Komets head coach Broc Threinen said.

Komets running back Nic Bauer has missed the past few weeks because of a back injury, so K-M turned to not just one Tanner, but two, to take Bauer's place.

"We've always had a lot of depth," Tanner Minette said.

"It's been pretty cool, to be able to start together, because we both haven't played that much on varsity," Tanner Dufault said.

Tanner Minette and Tanner Dufault teamed up to rush for nearly 200 yards in the Komets section championship win over Stewartville, but they do their damage in different ways.

"Tanner Minette has a really good burst to him, and he has great vision," Threinen said. "Tanner Dufault is a little bit bigger, and he really ran hard on Friday night."

"(Dufault) has the ability to get low and really punish some people," Minette said. "He's always been shifty too.  I get upfield, and once I hit that seam I'm out of there.  Tanner can hit that cutback and still punish people around the corners."

"I make a lot more cuts than he does," Dufault said. "He finds the hole and runs right through it.  I try to break free more than he does."

But no matter what happens on the field, these two seem to be linked by more than just a first name.

"We decided we're going to get shirts for one another," Minette said.  "We have a really cool shirt coming in the mail that has our 'T-squared' on the back with our football helmets."
