(ABC 6 NEWS) -- A level 3 sex offender who was set to be released into Albert Lea, could be committed to a state mental health facility.

Freeborn County attorney Craig Nelson tells ABC 6 News that he started the civil commitment process for Lorenzo Torres.

Torres has a history of sexual contact with young girls that he knows ages 12 to 15.

He was scheduled to be released from prison on Tuesday to live in the 2100 block of East Main Street in Albert Lea, however because of the commitment process, he'll be held in the Freeborn County jail until that process is resolved.
