(ABC 6 NEWS) -- "A couple of my friends in elementary school said, 'Anna, you've got to come try this YMCA (swim) program!' So I did it, and it just kind of clicked, and here I am," Albert Lea sophomore Anna Andersen said.

Where Andersen 'is' is at Albert Lea high school, preparing for next week's state swim meet.

"I really want to make the podium. That would be cool for me," Andersen said.

Andersen qualified in four events - two team and two individual - all of which have a common theme.

"Sprint freestyle is her main thing," Albert Lea swimming coach Jon Schmitz said.

"Freestyle is just my thing to do," Andersen said.

"Her start is incredible this year, and she's really figured out her turns and how she breaks out of her turns, so she's got a great streamline under water. She's got a remarkable kick, and she uses that to her advantage," Schmitz said.

Last year, Andersen swam in three state events, so not only has she gotten better, she also helped the Tigers break some records this year.

"(We) set all three relay records, and a couple at the Big 9 and section meets," Andersen said.

So she is setting her goals high.

"Definitely looking forward to breaking some more records, and maybe getting some All-Americans in there," Andersen said.
