WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - Many of the former Hostess employees who lost their jobs at the company's bakery in Waterloo a year ago are still feel the effects of the layoffs.
KWWL reports dozens of former Hostess employees in Waterloo are studying for new careers or adjusting to new jobs.
Kent Zingg says he was four years away from being able to retire from the Hostess bakery, but he had to change plans last November.
Zingg says he can still make a great loaf of bread, but the 49-year-old enrolled in a community college program to learn how to maintain furnaces and air conditioners.
Flowers Foods Inc. bought the Wonder bread brand from the now-defunct Hostess Brands, but it hasn't revived all of Hostess' old bakeries, including the Waterloo one.
