Charitable Grants Go Out To Numerous Non Profits

Hundred of thousands of dollars are going out to area non profits after the Worth County Development Authority announced the winners of their fall grants.

The top dollar grant is going to the City of Fertile, Iowa which will get $204,000 for an addition to it's library.

Other big winners included $103,000 for the Northwood Fire Department, $100,000 for the Joice, Iowa water treatment facility and $96,000 for a playground for the Worth County Conservation Department.

31 other grants ranging from $735 to $84,000 went out to other area entities, including $10,000 to Loving Hands of Faribault and $5,100 to American Legion Post 91 in Austin.

The Worth County Development Authority is the charitable arm of Diamond Jo Casino in Northwood. 

Iowa law requires all casinos in the state to donate 5.76% of their annual gross revenue to charity.
