(ABC 6 News) - As we know, people use smartphones for more than making phone calls; checking email, taking pictures, recording videos. But imagine doing all that, not on a tablet, but in your glasses.
Google Glass. It's the latest gadget that will soon hit the market, and it's already come to Rochester.
Alan DeKeyrel is the owner of CWS in Rochester. His company got invited by Google to be explorers. Basically, they got their hands on it before it even hits the market.
"So we, as a design company, are interested in what's going on in the future, what people are using, what the trends are," said DeKeyrel.
But what exactly do they do?
"You're looking at this little device in the upper right. You can look at weather, your email pulls down, things like that. You can take photos, you can shoot videos, so yeah, if you're doing some cool things like skydiving or something like that," said DeKeyrel.
I decided to give them a whirl for myself. I told Google Glass to take a picture, and it took a picture of Alan. But with a price tag of $1500, would the average person buy them?
"Yes, probably yes, especially with my grandkids growing up, it's fantastic to get a shot at the right time," said one woman I spoke with.
"I wouldn't. Probably not right now, "added Sue Hronik.
"Possibility. It's just like advanced phones and everything like that. You want to get to that level, you want better and better all the time," said David Howe.
And Alan says something like Google Glass could be the next big thing.
"I do think, in the future, there'll be a lot more wearable-type devices that people use whatever that by watches, or glasses, or things like that."
