(ABC 6 News) - Officials say a Stewartville baby and mom are doing fine Tuesday after the baby arriving nearly three months early.
The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Department says the baby’s mom, who was about 6 months pregnant, felt cramps and had gone to the bathroom just before 6 o’clock. She gave birth to a baby girl soon afterwards.
Larry Mueller, a Rochester City Fire Marshal and volunteer with the Stewartville Fire Department, performed CPR on the baby. He says she was the smallest patient he's ever had to do CPR on.
"The baby fit in the palm of my hand," says Mueller, "it was not breathing not responding to stimuli so we immediately started CPR."
The baby was taken to Saint Marys Hospital and is in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Muller said both baby and mom are improving and doing well.
