(ABC 6 NEWS) -- "What isn't a great season when you end up winning the state championship?" Chatfield running back Jake Neis said.

Last Friday, Neis rushed his team to the first state championship Chatfield has seen since 1996, and in the process, broke 4,000 career rushing yards.

"He's one of the greatest running backs that Chatfield has had," said head coach Jeff Johnson.

It's hard not to be put in that category with his mindset.

"I wasn't planning on losing. Going in there, I had a really good feeling we were going to win and I expected nothing less," said Neis.
And so when his team needed him to step up, he delivered.

"He's a five-tool back. We just give it to him and he'll come up with first downs and whatever you need," said quarterback Nate Scare.

"He can totally change a play with one cut. There has been several runs that I've either looked up at the jumbotron or sat back and said, 'Wow what a great run,"' said Johnson.

"The 105 yards that I had were all hard-earned yards. It wasn't like a walk in the park," Neis said.

The senior knows where all those yards came from.

"He knows his offensive line worked their tails off this year and he's one of those guys that knows how to give credit where credit is due," said Johnson.
He also knows that without this team, his greatest football memory wouldn't have been made.

"I'll probably remember this for the rest of my life," Neis said. "I don't think anything this great has ever happened to me yet in my life and it's just great."
