(ABC 6 News) -- A young woman who is hoping to inspire young students is showing there is more to her beauty than what is seen on the outside. We caught up with Miss Minnesota whose real beauty can be heard through her music.

"I started violin when I was four years old, and so since then, I’ve learned so much not only about music and about serving other people, but about other areas of life that I wanted to succeed in,” said Rebecca Yeh, Miss Minnesota 2013.

4th and 5th graders at Gage Elementary in Rochester got a special visit from Miss Minnesota, otherwise known as Rebecca Yeh. Rebecca's talent on the violin helped her make it to the top five in the Miss America competition this year. Her stop in Rochester Thursday morning was meant to inspire.

"I think it's incredibly important to really instill that passion and desire to pursue an instrument at a young age,” said Yeh.

These elementary students will soon have to decide whether or not to play an instrument in the school band. "For them to see a person come in and be professional and play an instrument at that caliber, helps them make decisions on what they want to do as they move into the middle school,” said Dan Kuhlman, Music Teacher at Gage Elementary.

Miss Minnesota herself answering their questions helped the students become more in tune with learning to play an instrument and how a simple violin can shape a person's life.

"It was really great to be able to share with them that it's not all about achieving or like competing and winning. A lot of it is about really serving other people through that and there's so many ways you can do that,” said Yeh.

Miss Minnesota will be back in Rochester for the miss Rochester/Olmsted County Scholarship Pageant, coming up January 18th. This pageant was last held in 1996 and our very own Laura Lee will be one of the judges. For more information visit their Facebook page.
