(ABC 6 News) -- Since the beginning of the school year every week ABC 6 has been honoring area educators with the Excellent Educator Award.
This weeks Excellent Educator is Superintendent Michael Munoz.

"You shocked me," says Munoz, stunned by the surprise, "it's very humbling, thank you very much,"
Superintendent Michael Munoz has worked in several school districts, but his leadership in Rochester is seen by his students, his staff and his community.

"I don't do this by myself, I have a lot of people working with me and for me, parents are contributing to that as well," he says.

He has been with the Rochester Public School District for a little more than two years and in his short time he has spurred positive change including a new program to welcome high school drop outs, back.

"We're just one big family all on the same page trying to accomplish the same thing, "he says, "we're all here to do the best we can to meet the needs of all of our students."

And you'll also see him in roles not like other Superintendents, in fact, he was a custodian for the day last Spring.

"I'm just kind of a normal guy and happen to be leading a school district," says Munoz.

Well, it just so happens, he's not bad at it.

"It's quite an honor to receive this."
