5 EYEWITNESS NEWS partnered with Mark Lanterman at Computer Forensic Services to identify thousands of credit card numbers stolen from Minnesotans and for sale online.

Lanterman disguised himself how a hacker might to log into a site that specializes in acquiring and selling stolen credit card information.

The Russian hacker responsible for the Target breach, first identified on the Krebs On Security blog, is also behind the site operating as a black market for stolen credit card data.

We found cards for sale that were stolen from people in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Plymouth, and Minnetonka.

The credit card information we found for sale may or may not be connected with the Target breach.

However, Lanterman tells 5 EYEWITNESS News that just because a number is not currently for sale doesn't mean it won't be in the future.

He says canceling compromised credit cards is the only way to truly protect yourself.
