(ABC 6 News) -- The Rochester Community Baptist Church hosted a celebration Sunday for the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Keeping Dr. King alive in the minds of Rochester's young African-American community is essential according to Fredricka Mack.

"There can be no dropping the ball on Dr. Martin Luther King and letting him not be a part of young African-American history," said Mack. “It is our responsibility as African-American adults to make sure that the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and others will not ever, ever, ever go away.”

Young kids helped celebrate Dr. King's famous “I Have a Dream” speech.

"I think it changed the world in many ways because it inspires people," said Arquisha Blackman.

"Dr. Martin Luther King wanted us to have a dream," said Jason Hollins.

"The ‘I Have a Dream’ speech shows that with perseverance, and courage, and faith and God above that whatever it is that we want to achieve as the great country we are, we will," said Mack.

Mack believes that Dr. King is a great example for how people should treat one another, and that education is the key to further putting an end to discrimination.

"There is no one race, no one sex, no one culture that's any better than the next, and we have to be taught that from birth," said Mack.

King's message of fairness and equality is what she says will make the world a better place.

"This world was made for you and for me," said Mack.
