(ABC 6 News) --- At first mention, there was a lot of concern. The idea of expanding the Root River Regional Park located just on the edge of Rochester and Stewartville. Mostly, neighbors fearing this expansion would compromise their homes.
The tone of this meeting Thursday was a lot different than the one we were at a couple months back.
In November, Township members came out sporting red to show just how many people are worried about this plan. Well, a lot has changed since then. The township board actually revoked their decision to give the go-ahead to county officials for the official mapping process, and since then, those with the county, township, and residents have been meeting to share their concerns.
Residents say they're happy to have their voices heard. "Understandably, at the beginning we didn't understand a lot of what was going on so there was lot of tension. I think at this point right now, I think it’s great that the commissioners and the county park board are willing to sit down and listen to our ideas," said resident Joe Chase.
Now this doesn't mean the expansion won't happen, they're just taking a step back to hear all options.
