(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Interstate 90 from Albert Lea to the South Dakota border has reopened after whiteout conditions forced its closure Sunday afternoon.
The small city of Windom in southwestern Minnesota is among the places sheltering motorists with who had no place to turn in the blowing snow that's made some roads impassable.
About 70 people, forced off the highways in whiteout conditions, stayed overnight at the Business Arts & Recreation Center where the Red Cross set up cots.
Governor Mark Dayton also authorized the use of National Guard armories in Albert Lea and Olivia for shelters in those communities.
