(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Tuesday morning Dodge County Commissioners were set to talk about the recently vacated chief deputy position. In the middle of the meeting, a decision was made to table the matter until its next meeting in two weeks.
Nearly two weeks ago, Sheriff Jim Jensen fired Mike Leonhardt. The move was not popular with some in the county office, and we surely heard it on social media.
Following the move, a petition was created to re-hire Leonhardt.
We spoke with Leonhardt shortly after his firing, who until now has only felt comfortable releasing this statement.
The Sheriff told us last week he wasn't able to expand on the firing due to privacy concerns, but now that he's had time to speak with other county officials, he's opening up.
In part of our interview, Jensen talks about the role that his second in command plays, and why he decided a need for a change.
We'll hear from the Sheriff tonight on ABC 6 News at 5 & 6.
